DEV3 Optica is a Shopify theme for eyewear brands, sunglasses labels and independent opticians. It is refined and editorial (Playfair Display and Jost, bone, espresso and bottle-green schemes, square corners) with calm motion and one 3D object: a glasses turntable in the hero whose lenses recolour as a shopper taps a tint swatch.
Lens options with clear upgrade pricing
- The Lens options block reads the variant option named Lens (configurable) and lists each value with its price difference and a description: Clear (included), Blue-light, Prescription, Polarised and so on. Upgrades are priced through your variants, so the cart and checkout always match.
- When the chosen lens contains "prescription" or "Rx", a prescription choice form opens: email it later, use my last test, or book a test, plus lens thickness and the name on the prescription. Choices are saved as line-item properties and appear in the cart and on the order.
- The form never collects prescription values. You confirm prescriptions with each customer directly, in line with the rules where you trade.
Help shoppers find a frame
- Frame finder: up to 4 quick questions (face shape, use, feel) filter a collection grid live, using product tags such as
face-oval, type-sun or material-acetate; "See all matches" links to the filtered collection.
- Shop by shape: a rail of line icons that draw themselves in, each linking to a collection or tag.
- Frame size block: a drawn diagram with lens width, bridge and temple from
optica.* metafields.
- Lens guide: lens cards with a glint animation and an optional polarised before/after slider that is a real range input.
- Swatch colour map with gradient support, so tortoiseshell and two-tone frames get realistic chips.
Stores and eye-test booking
- Stores & eye tests: studio cards with city filter, address, hours, services and map link.
- The booking card is your store's contact form: it emails you the name, studio, appointment type and preferred date and time. It takes no payment and syncs no calendar; confirm by email or swap in a booking app block.
- There is no camera or virtual try-on built in. A Try-on note block links to your studios, and a try-on app can be added as an app block.
Online Store 2.0, built from scratch
- Our own Online Store 2.0 base, built from scratch (not a Dawn fork): JSON templates, sections everywhere, app blocks, and header and footer section groups. Every section can be added, reordered, duplicated or hidden in the theme editor.
- Cart drawer that updates in place, predictive search, quick view and quick add, Storefront filtering and sorting (with the free Search & Discovery app), swatches, recommendations, recently viewed, mega menu, country and language selectors, customer accounts, gift card and password pages.
- Native 3D model media: upload a
.glb or .usdz to a product and the gallery shows Shopify's 3D viewer with a "View in your space" AR button on supported phones.
- Motion settings: animation level Off, Subtle or Full, reveal style, duration and stagger, split headings, magnetic buttons and tilt. Visitors who ask for reduced motion always get static content, and the 3D object shows a still frame.
- The 3D engine (three.js) is not part of the initial page load: it downloads only when the hero object is near the viewport and pauses offscreen. Without WebGL, a poster image shows instead. The initial JavaScript stays under 25 KB gzip.
- Shopify Theme Check: 0 errors. The theme was tested live on a Shopify development store: add to cart, the cart drawer and the handoff to Shopify checkout.
There is no public live demo, because the demo runs on a password-protected development store. Watch the video tour at the top of this page, or step through the screenshots at desktop, tablet and phone sizes.
