DEV3 Thread – Fashion & Apparel Shopify Theme (Online Store 2.0)

An editorial fashion Shopify theme: a magazine-style hero with a turning 3D hanger, shop-the-look hotspots, cards with colour swatches and one-click size quick add, a size guide drawer with a fit finder, a drop countdown and a community grid.

DEV3 Thread is a Shopify theme for fashion labels, apparel brands and clothing boutiques. It looks like a magazine (a two-tier editorial header, uppercase condensed headlines with italic accents, square corners, hairline rules and a paper, ink and oxblood palette) with confident motion and one 3D object: a wooden hanger with a draped, gently swaying cloth that turns slowly in the hero.

An editorial home page

  • Thread hero: an issue line (issue number, season, kicker), an oversized heading that animates letter by letter, a tall campaign image with a mask reveal and parallax, and the fabric of the season card with the 3D hanger. Up to 5 fabric colour dots recolour the cloth live.
  • Shop by: huge uppercase category rows with numbers and product counts. On desktop an image follows the cursor and wipes in for the hovered row; on touch screens each row shows a thumbnail.
  • Shop the look: numbered hotspots on a lookbook image open small product cards, and the numbered list beside the image highlights the matching pin. Pins are real buttons that close with Escape.
  • Drop banner: a live dot, a flip-in countdown, a sign-up form and a spinning text badge for launches and limited drops.
  • Community grid: an Instagram-style grid of square posts with a handle and an optional product to shop.

Cards and product pages built for clothing

  • Tall 3:4 cards with clickable colour swatches that swap the card image, and a hover size bar on desktop: one click adds that size in the selected colour to the cart. Unavailable sizes are struck through.
  • Fit scale: a thread.fit metafield (slim, true, relaxed or oversized) shows an animated scale with advice.
  • Size guide drawer with a fit finder: women's or men's tables with a cm/in toggle. Shoppers pick their usual size and how they like things to fit, and the drawer suggests a size and can select it on the product.
  • Fabric chips from a thread.material metafield, plus up to three chips such as "Free returns".
  • A gender and category mega menu with promo images, built from your own menu and Shopify tag filtering.

Online Store 2.0, built from scratch

  • Our own Online Store 2.0 base, built from scratch (not a Dawn fork): JSON templates, sections everywhere, app blocks, and header and footer section groups. Every section can be added, reordered, duplicated or hidden in the theme editor.
  • Cart drawer that updates in place with a free-delivery meter and upsells, predictive search, quick view and quick add, Storefront filtering and sorting (with the free Search & Discovery app), swatches, recommendations, recently viewed, sticky add to cart, country and language selectors, customer accounts, gift card and password pages.
  • Page templates for About, Lookbook, Size guide, FAQ and Contact.
  • Native 3D model media: upload a .glb or .usdz to a product and the gallery shows Shopify's 3D viewer with a "View in your space" AR button on supported phones.
  • Motion settings: animation level Off, Subtle or Full, reveal style, duration and stagger, split headings, slide-fill buttons and underline-sweep navigation. Visitors who ask for reduced motion always get static content, and the hanger rests.
  • The 3D engine (three.js) is not part of the initial page load: it downloads only when the hero object is near the viewport and pauses offscreen. Without WebGL, a poster image shows instead. The initial JavaScript is about 25 KB gzip.
  • Shopify Theme Check: 0 errors. The theme was tested on a Shopify development store, from add to cart to the cart drawer and cart page.

There is no public live demo, because the demo runs as an unpublished preview on a password-protected development store. Watch the video tour at the top of this page, or step through the screenshots at desktop, tablet and phone sizes.

What's in the download

  • dev3-thread-1.0.0.zip: the theme. Upload this zip itself under Online Store → Themes → Add theme → Upload zip file.
  • Documentation/: the HTML guide (open index.html).
  • Demo-Content/: products.csv, seed.json and images/, plus a README for the manual import.
  • LICENSE.txt and START-HERE.txt

The demo is the fictional Thread & Loom label: 16 products for women, men and accessories (157 variants), 5 collections, 6 pages, a journal with 3 articles, 3 lookbooks with hotspots and 9 community posts, all with images rendered for the theme. Import it with Products → Import (CSV) and follow the demo README for images, collections, pages and menus. A scripted seed is available from DEV3 support on request; it runs against your own store with your own Admin API token.
