DEV3 Rhythmia is a WordPress theme for dance schools, music schools and studios that teach both. Its dark stage look, plum-black backgrounds, spotlight amber and orchid highlights, stretching headline type and neon hairline borders sit on full-bleed photography of dancers, instruments and recital stages, so the site feels like the school, not a brochure.

There is no public live demo. Watch the video tour at the top of this page, or step through the screenshots at desktop, tablet and phone sizes.

The weekly timetable

  • A colour-coded week in day columns: every class slot shows its time, studio, instructor, style and age group, with today highlighted.
  • Filter chips by style and by age (Little, Juniors, Teens, Adults) narrow the week and the class cards, announce how many classes match and stay usable with a keyboard and a screen reader.
  • It works without JavaScript: every class is on the page, and the filter bar appears when the script runs. Slots come from one line per slot in each class, so the timetable, the class page and the structured data always agree.

Trial classes, recitals and programmes

  • A free-trial booking form that lists your classes, asks for a preferred date and time of day, and saves the request privately with a nonce, a honeypot and a rate limit.
  • Recitals and events with a countdown to the next one, a programme list, ticket buttons and an add-to-calendar file.
  • Programmes for grades, a show company and a young band, plus studio hire with a booking request form.

What is in the box

  • Home, timetable, classes and styles, instructors, grades and exams, recitals, trial class, fees, studio hire, about, contact, FAQ and news pages, plus class, instructor, recital and programme archives with single pages.
  • Five content types: classes (ten styles), instructors, recitals, programmes and parent and student quotes.
  • 29 block patterns, a child theme, translation and RTL support, and schema.org JSON-LD for the school, courses with weekly instances, events and FAQs.
  • A small WooCommerce shop (a trial class, class packs, recital tickets with adult and child options and a dance bag) with a slide-out cart.

Design and motion

Anybody headings with Manrope text, 12 px corners with neon hairline borders, and a home hero that is a full-screen slideshow with an outlined marquee of styles drifting behind the headline. Headings stretch from a condensed to a wide cut on hover through the font's width axis. A photo hero opens every page, with light motion only: split headings, staggered grids, counters and reveals. There is no 3D or WebGL code, and visitors who ask for reduced motion see the final state at once.

Compatible plugins

Rhythmia works on its own. Contact Form 7 (optional) powers the contact form in the demo. Booking and membership plugins can be added on your site; the theme does not call their APIs.

Demo content

The one-click demo creates a fictional school with 10 styles, 20 classes in 30 weekly slots, 6 instructors, 4 upcoming recitals and a past one, 4 programmes, 6 journal posts and 4 products. All names, venues and prices are samples. Photos are free-licence stock images with credits.

Included

The theme (version 1.0.0), a child theme, the DEV3 Theme Toolkit plugin, the demo content package, documentation and 6 months of support.

How it's built

Architecture, stack, key decisions and the quality gates DEV3 Rhythmia passed before release.

A flat, dark, photo-led theme for dance and music schools: a colour-coded weekly timetable filtered by style and age, free trial booking, instructors, recitals with a countdown and a class pack shop, all editable in Elementor.

The problem it solves

Dance and music school sites are usually a list of classes and a PDF timetable. Parents want to see which class fits their child's age and style at a glance, and schools want trial bookings that arrive with the class already chosen. The brief: a timetable that works for ten styles and four age groups, readable at a glance on a phone, bookable in a click, and editable by a non-developer, without 3D scenes or heavy scripts.

Architecture and approach

Rhythmia is a classic PHP theme with theme.json on DEV3's shared theme core, flat (no WebGL). The DEV3 Theme Toolkit plugin owns the content types, widgets, request forms and demo importer; the theme owns presentation and the timetable.

Key design decisions

  • The timetable is data. Each class stores its style, age group and one line per weekly slot (Tue, Thu 17:00-18:00 | Studio A); the week, the class page and the structured data are all built from those lines.
  • Works without JavaScript. Every class is rendered on the server; the style and age chips are real buttons added by a small script, with a live match count.
  • Stable colours. Ten styles have fixed colours and a new style gets a colour from its slug, so adding one never recolours the rest.
  • Request-time forms. The trial form is filled when the page is served, so Elementor's element cache cannot freeze a nonce.
  • Light and flat. Self-hosted fonts, a 12 KB gzip boot bundle and light motion only; the headline stretch uses the font's width axis and is off for touch and reduced motion.

Quality gates and results

Rhythmia ships as a complete school site with a one-click demo: 10 styles, 20 classes in 30 weekly slots, 6 instructors, 4 upcoming recitals, 4 programmes, 6 journal posts and 4 products. The theme adds 29 block patterns.

  • Quality gates passed: php -l on every file, phpcs with WPCS 3 and PHPCompatibilityWP 7.4+ at 0 errors, the flat-theme size budget and no-3D scan, and the WordPress Theme Check plugin with no required-level failures.
  • Flows tested: add to cart, mini cart, cart, checkout and order received, and live editing of the Photo Hero in Elementor.

All names, venues and prices in the demo are fictional samples.

A dance and music school WordPress theme with a timetable: DEV3 Rhythmia: DEV3 Rhythmia

Most dance and music school websites are a list of classes and a PDF timetable. Parents want something else: to see at a glance which class fits their child's age and style, and to book a free trial without typing the same details twice. DEV3 Rhythmia is our dance and music school WordPress theme built around those two things. This post covers who it suits, how the timetable works and how to set it up.

Who Rhythmia is for

  • Dance studios and ballet schools with several styles and age groups to show at once.
  • Music schools that teach piano, guitar, violin, voice and drums in small groups and one-to-one slots.
  • Schools that teach both, where a parent wants one place to browse by age.

If you only need a one-page contact site, a simpler business theme will do. Rhythmia suits a school with a timetable worth filtering.

A timetable that filters by style and age

Every class stores its style, its age group and one line per weekly slot, such as Tue, Thu 17:00-18:00 | Studio A. The theme turns those lines into a week in day columns, with a colour for each style and today highlighted.

The weekly timetable, colour-coded by style, with filter chips for style and age

Chips for style and for age group (Little, Juniors, Teens, Adults) narrow the week and the class cards, announce how many classes match and work with a keyboard and a screen reader. It is rendered on the server, so every class is visible even without JavaScript, and the filter bar appears when the script runs.

Trial classes, instructors and recitals

The free-trial form lists your classes, asks for a preferred date and time of day and saves the request privately, with a nonce, a honeypot and a rate limit.

Instructor profiles show a portrait, what each person teaches and where they trained, followed by the classes they lead. Recitals list the programme, a countdown, ticket buttons and an add-to-calendar file.

Classes, packs and tickets

A small WooCommerce shop sells a trial class, class packs, recital tickets with adult and child options and a dance bag. The cart opens as a drawer and the checkout follows the dark stage look.

Rhythmia works on its own. Contact Form 7 (optional) powers the contact form in the demo. All names, venues and prices in the demo are fictional samples.
