DEV3 Listora is a free WordPress theme for business directories, local guides, city and neighbourhood listings and niche "best of" sites. It is bright and local: Be Vietnam Pro headlines, a cool paper canvas, flame-orange actions, pin-shaped labels, photo cards with numbered map pins and a pill search bar that floats over a photo hero. Motion is light (split headings, reveals, counters, a slow Ken Burns drift) and respects reduced motion. There is no 3D or WebGL in the theme at all.

Search that works without JavaScript

  • A Listings post type with tagline, price range ($ to $$$$), address, area, phone, email, website, opening hours, features, coordinates, gallery, featured and verified flags.
  • Keyword, place and category search plus filters for price, features, minimum rating, open now and sort. Everything is a plain GET form, so filters work without JavaScript and every result page is linkable.
  • Category landing pages with an icon header, and area pages for neighbourhoods with their own listings and a map.

Opening hours and open now

Write hours one line per day or range. Cards and pages show a live Open now · until 23:30 state computed in the site's time zone and refreshed every minute, and the hours feed the structured data.

Reviews, claims and submissions

  • Reviews with a star rating, a score summary with a bar per star count, moderated comments and sample reviews for the demo.
  • A claim this listing form on every listing, and an add a listing form with category, hours, features and up to four photos. Nothing is published automatically: each submission is stored as a private pending request, and an editor can create a draft listing or mark a claim verified from the request screen.
  • Safe photo upload: JPEG, PNG or WebP only, size and dimension limits, real-image check, re-encoding that strips metadata, random file names and a private folder with a deny-all rule.

Maps that respect privacy

Lists show a drawn street grid with numbered pins and load nothing from outside. A single listing shows a placeholder, and the OpenStreetMap frame loads only after the visitor agrees.

Paid featured packages

WooCommerce products can carry a number of featured days. Buyers choose which listing to feature, and when the order is completed the listing sorts first, gets a ribbon and an orange pin until the time runs out.

Search engines

Each listing prints LocalBusiness JSON-LD with a type taken from its category, address, geo, opening hours, price range, amenities, aggregate rating, reviews and a breadcrumb.

Built for editing

Every demo page is built in Elementor (free) with the DEV3 Theme Toolkit widgets, six directory widgets (search card, category tiles, listing cards, map, area cards, directory form) and 26 block patterns. Colours and fonts come from one token file and sync to the Customizer, theme.json and the Elementor kit. Fonts are self-hosted. The demo photos are free-licence (CC0) stock photos listed in PHOTO-CREDITS.md; all businesses, addresses, hours, reviews and people are fictional.

How it's built

Architecture, stack, key decisions and the quality gates DEV3 Listora passed before release.

Our own free WordPress theme for business directories: search and filters that work without JavaScript, live open-now hours, reviews, claim and submit forms with checked photo uploads, privacy-first maps, paid featured packages in WooCommerce and LocalBusiness JSON-LD, on a no-3D theme core.

The problem it solves

A directory has to be trusted. Visitors want to know a place is open before they walk there, and owners want a listing that is easy to add and hard to abuse. Most directory themes lean on heavy plugins, hide filters behind scripts, load third-party maps on every page and accept uploads with little checking. Listora had to make search, filters and open-now work without JavaScript, take photo submissions safely, keep maps private until the visitor agrees, mark up every listing for Google, sell featured placement through WooCommerce and stay editable in Elementor on a core that ships no 3D code.

Architecture and approach

Listora is a classic PHP theme with theme.json on DEV3's shared theme core in flat mode: a WebGL-free boot and a build gate that fails the theme if any three.js or WebGL code reaches its assets. The always-loaded JavaScript is about 13 KB gzipped.

Listings reuse a toolkit post type with directory fields. The archive reads plain GET parameters (keyword, place, category, price, features, rating, open now, sort) in pre_get_posts, so every filter works without JavaScript. Opening hours are parsed on the server in the site's time zone, which drives the open-now badge, the filter and the structured data; a small script only refreshes the badge each minute.

Submissions use a theme-local form handler: nonce, honeypot and rate limit, then a server check of extension, MIME type and real image data, size and dimension limits, re-encoding that strips metadata, random file names and a private folder with a deny-all rule. Everything is stored as a pending request; an editor creates a draft listing or verifies a claim. Featured packages are WooCommerce products that switch a listing to featured when the order completes and expire on a daily job.

Quality gates and results

Listora ships as a free download with a one-click demo: 8 Elementor pages, 26 fictional listings in 8 categories, 4 areas, 6 journal articles, 4 packages and add-ons in the shop, and 26 block patterns.

It passes PHP lint, WordPress coding standards (0 errors, 0 warnings), Theme Check with no required issues, the WooCommerce checkout flow and an Elementor editor test, and its no-3D gate.

A directory has to be trusted. Visitors want to know a place is open before they walk there, and owners want a listing that is easy to add and hard to abuse. DEV3 Listora is a free WordPress theme built for both: filters that work without JavaScript, a live open-now state, reviews, claim and submit forms with checked photo uploads, privacy-first maps and paid featured packages, all editable in Elementor.

Who Listora is for

  • City and neighbourhood directories and "best of" guides.
  • Niche directories for one trade or interest.
  • Chambers, associations and councils that list member businesses.

Search and filters without JavaScript

The listings archive is a plain GET form: keyword, place, category, price range, features, minimum rating, open now and sort. Because every filter is a URL parameter, results are linkable, cacheable and work for visitors on slow connections or with scripts blocked.

Open now, for real

Hours are written one line per day. The theme compares them with the clock in your site's time zone and shows "Open now · until 23:30" on every card and page, refreshed each minute. The same hours drive the open-now filter and the structured data.

Reviews, claims and submissions

Visitors leave a star rating and a comment. Owners press Claim this listing, and new businesses use the Add a listing form with up to four photos. Nothing is published automatically: every submission becomes a pending request, photos are checked, re-encoded and kept privately, and an editor creates a draft or verifies the claim.

Maps that respect privacy

Lists show a drawn street grid with numbered pins that loads nothing from outside. On a single listing the OpenStreetMap map loads only after the visitor presses a button.

Featured packages

Sell featured placement with WooCommerce. Buyers choose which listing to feature, and when the order completes it sorts first with a ribbon and an orange pin until the days run out.
