DEV3 Pawlio is a free WordPress theme for pet supply stores, from a small online shop to a local pet store with a webshop. It is built to sell: big outlined product cards, sticker badges, pill buttons and bold Bricolage Grotesque headlines on a warm cream page with coral, lemon, sage and sky panels, backed by real pet photography on every page. Motion is light (split headings, reveals, a ticker band) and it respects reduced motion.

Sign in to download it for free. There is no public live demo: watch the video tour at the top of this page, or step through the screenshots at desktop, tablet and phone sizes.

Pawlio is a design and a set of tools. Its sample copy gives general pet-care information only and is not veterinary advice. Review all wording before you publish. The demo brands, products, people, addresses and prices are fictional, and the product pictures are original illustrations with no packaging text.

Shop by pet and by need

  • Shop by pet: dogs, cats, small pets, fish and birds, from a global Pet product attribute, with photo cards on the home page and a landing page for each pet.
  • Shop by need: food, treats, toys, beds, walk and travel, grooming and health, as product categories with round-icon tiles.
  • Product filters: pill links for pet, need, brand, price band, autoship-eligible and on sale, built on WooCommerce layered navigation. They are plain links, so they work without JavaScript, and they fold on phones.

Autoship (subscribe and save)

  • Choose a delivery rhythm on a product: one-time, or every 2, 4 or 8 weeks, with a 10% saving on the autoship choices. In the demo it is a WooCommerce variable product with a Delivery attribute.
  • An autoship note on product pages, stickers on eligible products, an Autoship eligible filter and a dedicated Autoship page.
  • Real recurring billing needs a subscriptions plugin such as WooCommerce Subscriptions. The theme says so in plain words and never charges a card on a schedule by itself.

Pet Club and size guides

  • A Pet Club signup form for a free birthday treat: owner, pet name and type, birthday and a consent box. It has a nonce, a honeypot and a rate limit, saves private entries in the admin, and can email a coupon code on the day.
  • A Size guide button on collars, harnesses and beds with a neck, chest and weight chart, plus a full Size guide page with how-to-measure steps.

A store that is pleasant to use

  • Slide-out mini cart with a free-delivery progress bar, quick view with variation options and a wishlist.
  • Size and Delivery options as pill buttons, brand line and pet tags under the title, ticked key facts, and Feeding & care and Delivery & returns tabs.
  • 44 demo products from eight fictional brands, a customer reviews section and a pet-care journal.

Built for editing

Every demo page is built in Elementor (free) with the DEV3 Theme Toolkit widgets, and 26 block patterns cover the same sections for the block editor. A toolkit Photo Hero opens every page. Colours and fonts come from one token file and sync to the Customizer, theme.json and the Elementor kit. Fonts are self-hosted. The demo photos are free-licence (CC0 or Unsplash licence) stock photos listed in PHOTO-CREDITS.md.

Our own free WordPress theme for pet supply stores: shop by pet and need, product filters, autoship delivery options, a Pet Club birthday-treat signup and collar and bed size guides, built on DEV3's flat theme core.

The problem it solves

Pet shoppers arrive with a pet and a need, not a category tree: a medium dog who needs a harness, a cat who needs a scratcher. They also buy the same bag of food again and again, and they guess sizes wrong. A pet store theme has to make browsing by pet and need fast, make repeat buying painless, make sizing clear, and still feel friendly and bold. Pawlio also had to avoid photos of branded pet food, stay editable in Elementor and stay honest about what a theme can and cannot do, since real subscription billing needs a plugin.

Architecture and approach

Pawlio is a classic PHP theme with theme.json, built on DEV3's shared theme core in flat mode, with light always-loaded JavaScript.

Shopping is organised by pet (a global product attribute) and need (product categories). A filter panel of plain links, built on WooCommerce layered navigation, adds brand, price band, autoship-eligible and on sale, and folds on phones. The mini-cart drawer, quick view and wishlist come from the DEV3 Theme Toolkit, and a free-delivery bar sits in the cart and drawer.

Autoship is modelled as a Delivery attribute (one-time, every 2, 4 or 8 weeks) on variable products with a 10% sale price, plus an autoship note, stickers and a filter. The theme states that real recurring billing needs a subscriptions plugin.

The Pet Club form checks a nonce, a honeypot and an hourly limit, requires consent, saves private entries, and a daily job can email a coupon code on the pet's birthday. Collars, harnesses and beds show a size guide chart from product meta. Product pictures are original illustrations, so no packaging or brand appears.

Quality gates and results

Pawlio ships as a free download with a one-click demo: Elementor pages, 44 products from fictional brands, five pet landing pages, an Autoship page, a Pet Club page, size guides, customer reviews, a journal and 26 block patterns.

It passes PHP lint, WordPress coding standards, Theme Check, the WooCommerce checkout flow, and an Elementor editor test. Its sample copy gives general pet-care information only; owners should review all wording before publishing.

Set it up in an afternoon

  1. Install the theme and the DEV3 Theme Toolkit, then import the demo from Appearance → DEV3 Demo.
  2. Replace the demo photos and product pictures with your own, and edit the hero in the Photo Hero widget.
  3. Assign a pet and a brand to each product and set the Delivery options on your autoship foods.
  4. Set your phone, free-delivery amount and birthday coupon under Appearance → Customize → Pawlio: store details.
