DEV3 Steerwise is a free WordPress theme for driving schools, learner-driver instructors and road-safety trainers. It is friendly and educational rather than dark and automotive: Exo 2 headlines with Inter body text, a road-sign palette of navy, amber and teal (#1a1a2e, #ffb400, #2ec4b6) on a warm paper page, flat outlined cards with hard shadows and dashed road-line details. Motion is light (reveals, counters, soft hover shifts) and it respects reduced motion. There is no 3D or WebGL in the theme at all.

Sign in to download it for free. There is no public live demo: watch the video tour at the top of this page, or step through the screenshots at desktop, tablet and phone sizes. The demo school, Steerwise Driving School, is fictional and all prices, pass rates and ratings are sample figures.

Lessons that sell themselves

  • Course packages: beginner, refresher, intensive, test prep, automatic and manual, each with price, tuition hours, what is included and FAQs.
  • A home lesson bar (course, manual or automatic, pickup postcode) that carries into the booking page.
  • A lesson request form with pickup area, preferred times, lesson length, experience and transmission, plus a live course estimate that updates as you click. Courses taught in one car type lock the transmission choice.
  • A pickup-area checker driven by a list in the Customizer.

Trust and learning

  • Instructor profiles with car type, transmission, languages, areas covered and sample ratings.
  • A pass-rate and stats band, clearly labelled as sample figures.
  • A theory practice quiz: a small set of fictional, generic road-safety questions built in JavaScript and scored in the browser. They are demo content, not real test material.
  • A learner tips blog, learner reviews and a manual or automatic pricing toggle with a comparison table.

Built for editing

Every demo page is built in Elementor (free) with the DEV3 Theme Toolkit widgets, including the Photo Hero, and 23 block patterns cover the same sections for the block editor. A child theme is included. Colours and fonts come from one token file and sync to the Customizer, theme.json and the Elementor kit. Fonts are self-hosted. The demo photos are free-licence (CC0) stock photos listed in PHOTO-CREDITS.md, with no readable plates or school signage.

How it's built

Architecture, stack, key decisions and the quality gates DEV3 Steerwise passed before release.

Our own free WordPress theme for driving schools: course packages, a lesson request form with a live estimate, instructor profiles, a browser-scored theory quiz and lesson bundles, built on the no-3D theme core.

The problem it solves

Learner drivers want four answers fast: which course suits me, what will it cost, will an instructor pick me up, and will I be treated patiently. Most driving-school themes answer with a phone number and a dark car photo. Steerwise had to let a visitor choose manual or automatic, see a price update, check their pickup postcode, meet the instructor, and practise theory, while looking friendly and educational instead of like a car dealer.

Architecture and approach

Steerwise is a classic PHP theme with theme.json, built on DEV3's shared theme core in flat mode: a "flat": true token stamps a WebGL-free boot and a build gate fails the theme if any three.js or WebGL code reaches its assets.

The DEV3 Theme Toolkit provides the post types (courses, instructors, reviews), request forms and Elementor widgets. The theme adds the lesson request form with its estimate script, the pickup-area checker and a theory quiz written in plain JavaScript that scores answers in the browser. The look is flat road-sign cards with hard shadows, dashed road-line dividers and numbered route steps, in navy, amber and teal.

Quality gates and results

Steerwise ships as a free download with a one-click demo for the fictional Steerwise Driving School, with sample prices, pass rates and quiz questions, 23 block patterns and a child theme.

It passes PHP lint, WordPress coding standards, Theme Check with no required issues, the WooCommerce checkout flow and an Elementor editor test, and its no-3D gate.

Learner drivers want to know four things quickly: which course suits them, what it will cost, whether an instructor can pick them up, and whether they will be treated patiently. DEV3 Steerwise is a free WordPress theme built around those questions, with a lesson request form that shows a price as the visitor clicks and every page editable in Elementor.

Who Steerwise is for

  • Driving schools from a single instructor to a multi-car company.
  • Driving instructors and road-safety trainers who sell course packages and lesson bundles.
  • Agencies and freelancers building an education or training site the client can keep up to date.

Course packages and a lesson bar

Six course packages (beginner, refresher, intensive, test prep, automatic and manual) show a price, the tuition hours and what is included. Under the hero, a lesson bar asks for the course, manual or automatic and a pickup postcode, then carries those choices into the booking page.

A live lesson estimate

The lesson request form asks for pickup area, preferred times, lesson length and experience, and shows a course estimate that updates on every click. Courses taught in one type of car lock the transmission choice. All prices in the demo are sample figures.

Instructors, pass rates and a theory quiz

Instructor profiles list the teaching car, transmission, languages and areas covered. A pass-rate band shows counted figures that are clearly labelled as samples. The theory practice quiz uses a small set of fictional, generic road-safety questions, built in JavaScript and scored in the browser.

Pricing, bundles and gift vouchers

The pricing page has a manual and automatic toggle and a comparison table. Lesson bundles and gift vouchers are normal WooCommerce products with a slide-out mini cart.
