DEV3 Calmera is a free WordPress theme for psychologists, psychotherapists, counsellors and wellbeing practices. It is calm, warm and easy to read: Literata serif headlines, Nunito Sans body text, soft cream surfaces, deep slate bands and sage and peach accents, with strong contrast (about 13:1 for body text, 5.9:1 or better for links and buttons), an 18 px base size and large tap targets. Photography is quiet: rooms, plants, light and tea, never people in distress. Motion is slow and light, and it respects reduced motion. There is no 3D or WebGL in the theme at all.

A gentle first impression

  • The toolkit's Photo Hero widget: one photo, a slow slideshow or a muted background video, with an overlay or gradient, optional Ken Burns drift, a split headline, two buttons and trust chips such as "Insurance accepted".
  • Inner pages use the same widget at medium or short height, so every page opens with a calm photo and a clear heading.

Therapies and therapists

  • Therapies for individual, couples, family and online sessions, plus young adults and mindfulness groups. Each has a fee, session length, how it is offered, "what a session looks like" steps, an "often a good fit when…" list and FAQs, with an on-this-page menu and a booking form with the therapy pre-selected.
  • A therapist directory with live filters (name, therapy, location, language, role) and profiles with approaches, specialisms, qualifications, training, languages and a "accepting new clients" status.
  • A what to expect page that walks through the first session and explains confidentiality.

Booking, fees and privacy

  • Book a first consultation: an appointment form whose topics come from your therapies, with an in person / online / no preference choice and a privacy note, stored as private requests and emailed to you.
  • Fees & insurance: a single-session / session-pack toggle, a comparison table, an accepted-plans list and a step-by-step guide to using insurance (all sample content).
  • A confidential contact form with a consent checkbox and a clear privacy note, and a consent-loaded map.
  • A crisis notice band above the footer with generic wording, "If you are in immediate danger, call your local emergency number.", editable in the Customizer. The theme includes no real helpline numbers.

Resources and shop

A resources and articles blog with reading progress, and WooCommerce styling for session packs (a variable pack of 4 or 8 sessions) and downloadable PDF workbooks, with a slide-out mini cart.

Built for editing

Every demo page is built in Elementor (free) with the DEV3 Theme Toolkit widgets, and 26 block patterns cover the same sections for the block editor. Colours and fonts come from one token file and sync to the Customizer, theme.json and the Elementor kit. Fonts are self-hosted. The demo photos are free-licence (CC0) stock photos listed in PHOTO-CREDITS.md; all names, credentials, insurers, fees and quotes are fictional.

How it's built

Architecture, stack, key decisions and the quality gates DEV3 Calmera passed before release.

Our own free WordPress theme for psychologists and therapists: a calm photo hero, therapies and therapist profiles, a first-consultation request with an in-person or online choice, fees and insurance, a confidential contact form and a crisis notice band.

The problem it solves

People looking for a therapist are often nervous. They want to know who they would meet, what a first session is like, what it costs and whether it is private, and they need to read it all comfortably. Most therapy themes lean on stock photos of people in distress, low-contrast pastels and small type. Calmera had to feel safe and warm, stay high-contrast and easy to read, make booking a first conversation simple, say clearly that the practice is not an emergency service, and remain fully editable in Elementor, on a core that ships no 3D or WebGL code.

Architecture and approach

Calmera is a classic PHP theme with theme.json, built on DEV3's shared theme core in its flat mode: a "flat": true token stamps a WebGL-free boot (smooth scroll, header, motion) and a build gate fails the theme if any three.js or WebGL code reaches its assets. The always-loaded JavaScript is about 12.5 KB gzipped.

The DEV3 Theme Toolkit provides the post types (therapies, therapists, client words) and the widgets. Its Photo Hero opens every page with a quiet photo: rooms, plants, light and tea. Therapies store their fee, session length, steps, fit list and FAQs as fields, so each page reads the same way. The first-consultation form is the toolkit's appointment request form with a topic list from the therapies; Calmera adds an in-person or online choice and a privacy note. A Customizer-driven crisis notice band uses generic wording and contains no real helpline numbers.

Colour is chosen for contrast: body text is about 13:1 on the cream background and buttons and links use a deep sage at 5.9:1 or better.

Quality gates and results

Calmera ships as a free download with a one-click demo: 11 Elementor pages, 6 therapies, 6 therapists, 6 articles, 7 shop products and 26 block patterns.

It passes PHP lint, WordPress coding standards (0 errors, 0 warnings), Theme Check with no required issues, the WooCommerce checkout flow and an Elementor editor test, and its no-3D gate.

A free therapist WordPress theme: booking, fees and calm design with Calmera: DEV3 Calmera

Choosing a therapist is a vulnerable step. A practice website has one job: help someone feel safe enough to send a first message. That means showing who they would meet, what a first session is like, what it costs and how their privacy is protected, in a calm layout that is easy to read. DEV3 Calmera is a free WordPress theme built for exactly that, with quiet photography instead of effects and every page editable in Elementor.

Who Calmera is for

  • Psychologists, psychotherapists and counsellors, from solo practitioners to group practices.
  • Couples, family and young-adult therapists who offer several kinds of session.
  • Online-first practices that want a clear explanation of video sessions.

Therapies and who they suit

Each therapy stores its fee, session length, how it is offered, "what a session looks like" steps, an "often a good fit when…" list and FAQs. The template lays them out the same way every time, with an on-this-page menu and a booking form that already knows which therapy the visitor is reading about.

The people behind the practice

The therapist directory filters live by name, therapy, location and language. Each profile shows a portrait, practice details, whether they are accepting new clients, approaches, specialisms, qualifications, training and languages.

A clear, private next step

Book a first consultation is an appointment form whose topics come from your therapies, with an in-person or online choice and a privacy note. Requests are stored privately in WordPress and emailed to you. The Fees & insurance page has a toggle between single sessions and packs, a comparison table and a plain guide to using insurance.

A crisis notice band sits above the footer on every page. It uses generic wording ("If you are in immediate danger, call your local emergency number.") and you can add your own local details in the Customizer. The theme includes no real helpline numbers.
