DEV3 Verdance is a free WordPress theme for landscaping companies, garden designers, lawn-care and tree-care businesses and other outdoor home-service trades. It looks organic and botanical: Gelasio serif headlines with italic accents and Mulish body text, a sage and forest palette (#1f3d2b, #5a8f29 and marigold #e0a458), leaf-cornered cards, arch-topped photos and real photography in every section. Motion is light (reveals, counters, soft hover lifts) and respects reduced motion. There is no 3D or WebGL in the theme at all.

Sign in to download it for free. There is no public live demo: watch the video tour at the top of this page, or step through the screenshots at desktop, tablet and phone sizes. The demo company, Verdance Landscapes, is fictional, and all prices, ratings and figures are sample. Demo photos are free-licence stock images; the before and after photos illustrate each job and are not real customer gardens.

  • Seasonal care plans sold as simple WooCommerce products with monthly prices, season-coloured plan cards, a comparison table and a four-season garden calendar. Install WooCommerce Subscriptions to make them recurring.
  • A lawn-care cost estimator by area, condition, access and add-ons that shows a price range, clearly labelled as an estimate and not a quote.

A site-visit form that is safe to publish

  • A free site-visit request with a postcode hint, garden size and up to four photos.
  • Safe file checks: only JPG, PNG and WebP, size and count limits, the real file type read from the bytes, a decode check, then every photo is re-saved by the WordPress image editor under a random name in a protected folder. Nonce, honeypot, rate limit and a consent box protect the form.

  • A shop styled for care plans, garden kits and a downloadable calendar, with a slide-out mini cart.

Built for editing

Every demo page is built in Elementor (free) with the DEV3 Theme Toolkit widgets, including the Photo Hero, and 26 block patterns cover the same sections for the block editor. A child theme is included. Colours and fonts come from one token file and sync to the Customizer, theme.json and the Elementor kit. Fonts are self-hosted. The demo photos are free-licence (CC0) stock photos listed in PHOTO-CREDITS.md.

How it's built

Our own free WordPress theme for landscapers and garden-care companies: project before/after sliders, seasonal care plans in WooCommerce, a lawn estimator and a free site-visit form that checks and re-saves uploaded photos, built on the no-3D theme core.

The problem it solves

People hiring a gardener want to see the transformation, know roughly what it costs and feel safe sending photos of their home. Most landscaping themes show a gallery and a contact form. Verdance had to make the work visible with before/after sliders, give honest price guidance without pretending to quote, sell recurring care as WooCommerce products, and accept customer photos without opening an upload hole, while staying fully editable in Elementor and shipping no 3D or WebGL code.

Architecture and approach

Verdance is a classic PHP theme with theme.json, built on DEV3's shared theme core in flat mode: a "flat": true token stamps a WebGL-free boot and a build gate fails the theme if any three.js or WebGL code reaches its assets.

The DEV3 Theme Toolkit provides the post types (services, projects, team, reviews) and the widgets, including the Before / After slider and Photo Hero. The lawn estimator is a small lazy script that multiplies a programme rate by area, condition and access and shows a range labelled as an estimate. The site-visit form posts to the toolkit request endpoint; a filter then validates each photo (extension, real type from the bytes, image decode, size and count), re-encodes it with the WordPress image editor and stores it under a random name in a protected uploads folder, never in the media library. A nonce, honeypot, rate limit and consent box guard the form.

Care plans are simple WooCommerce products with season-coloured cards, and a four-season garden calendar ships as a block pattern. The demo uses free-licence CC0 photos with a credits file.

Quality gates and results

Verdance ships as a free download with a one-click demo for the fictional Verdance Landscapes, with sample prices and figures, 26 block patterns and a child theme.

It passes PHP lint, WordPress coding standards, Theme Check with no required issues, the WooCommerce checkout flow and an Elementor editor test, plus its no-3D gate. The upload handler was tested against PHP files renamed to .jpg, a GIF with embedded PHP, oversized files and too many files, and rejects all of them.

Seasonal care plans are simple WooCommerce products with monthly prices and season-coloured cards, plus a four-season garden calendar. Install WooCommerce Subscriptions if you want them to recur.

An honest lawn estimator

The lawn estimator takes a programme, the lawn area, its condition, access and add-ons, and shows a price range labelled as an estimate. A free site visit confirms the price. All prices in the demo are sample figures.

Visitors can attach up to four photos. The server accepts only real JPG, PNG and WebP images, checks size and count, decodes each file, re-saves it as a clean image under a random name in a protected folder, and keeps it out of the media library. A nonce, honeypot, rate limit and consent box guard the form.

Set it up in an afternoon

  1. Install the theme and the DEV3 Theme Toolkit, then import the demo from Appearance → DEV3 Demo.
  2. Replace the demo photos with your own and set your prices.
  3. List your service areas, team and reviews.
  4. Set your phone number and visit link under Appearance → Customize.
