How to use the survey and poll maker

From question to live results in two minutes

A good poll asks one thing clearly. This tool gives you four question types and a results dashboard that updates by itself, so you can drop a link in a group chat or newsletter and watch the bars move.

Build it

  1. Title and intro. Say what the poll is for and how long it takes.
  2. Questions. Use single choice for "pick one", multiple choice for "pick all that apply", a 1 to 5 rating for satisfaction, and short text for open comments. Reorder with the arrows, and mark the ones people must answer.
  3. Results visibility. Public results are a nice reward for voting. Choose private when the numbers are for you only.
  4. Closing date. Optional. Voting stops after that day.
  5. Publish. You get a share link and a private manage link.

Reading the results

The manage page shows the response count, a bar chart per choice question, the average for ratings and every text answer. It refreshes every few seconds, so you can leave it open during a live session. Download a CSV to analyse answers in a spreadsheet; cells that start with a formula character are neutralised so the file is safe to open.

Tips for better answers

  • Keep it under ten questions. Completion drops quickly after that.
  • Offer an "Other" or "Not sure" option when people may not fit your choices.
  • Do not combine two questions in one ("Was the food and service good?").
  • Put required questions first and optional comments last.

Limits and privacy

One answer per browser is enforced with an anonymous local id, which is fine for friendly polls but not for anything that needs strict identity. Keep the manage link secret: it is the only way back in, and we store only a fingerprint of it.

Frequently asked questions

How is this different from the form builder?

The form builder collects free-form responses into a table. This tool is built for counting: single and multiple choice, 1 to 5 ratings and short text, with live bar charts, percentages and averages instead of a list of rows.

How do you stop people voting twice?

Each browser gets a random anonymous id that is stored locally and sent with the answer, and the server accepts one answer per id. Submissions are also rate limited per address and protected by a hidden trap field. Someone determined can still clear their storage, so use it for friendly polls, not elections.

Who can see the results?

You choose. With public results, voters see live bars after they answer (never the free-text answers). With private results only your manage link shows anything. The manage link always shows everything, including text answers.

Can the survey close automatically?

Yes. Set a last day for voting (UTC) and the page stops taking answers after it. You can also switch answers off at any time from the manage page, or delete the survey and all of its answers.

Is there a limit?

Up to 20 questions, 12 options per choice question and 2,000 answers per survey. Pages with no activity for 180 days are deleted automatically.

Do respondents need to give their email?

No. The tool does not ask for names or emails, which keeps polls quick and anonymous. Avoid asking for personal data in the text questions.
