How to use the restaurant menu card designer
From price list to printed menu
A good printed menu is easy to scan, honest about allergens and consistent with your brand. This tool turns your dishes into a clean, print-ready layout without design software. Everything runs in your browser, and the preview shows the real page so you can see where each line will print.
Build your menu
- Add your details. Enter the restaurant name, a short tagline and a footer note for allergy advice or service charge. Upload a logo if you have one; transparent PNG logos keep their transparency.
- Create sections. Starters, mains, desserts and drinks are the usual order. Each section has an optional one-line note, such as Served with chips.
- Add items. Give each dish a name, a price and a short description. Tick the dietary icons that apply: vegetarian, vegan, gluten free, spicy, nut free, dairy free, halal or chef's special. Icons used on the menu are explained in a small legend at the bottom.
- Reorder sections and items with the arrow buttons.
Choose a layout
- A4 single column is the classic sit-down menu.
- A4 two columns fits a long menu on fewer pages.
- A5 card suits cafes, lunch specials and drinks lists.
- Tri-fold (DL) gives you three panels that fold into a pocket-size leaflet.
- Table tent is a short menu for promotions, with both faces readable once folded.
Style it
Pick a theme or set your own accent, text and page colours, then choose heading and body fonts from the standard PDF set: Helvetica, Times and Courier. Choose a currency and whether prices show a symbol, the code or just numbers. Dotted lines from dish to price help guests follow a row across the page.
Print it well
Download the PDF and print at actual size. Check the preview for pages that are nearly empty, and use a smaller text size if a menu spills onto an extra page. Print a single copy first and read it aloud for typos, because prices and allergens are the two things you cannot afford to get wrong.
Keep it updated
Export the JSON file after each change so you can edit the same menu next season. If you want online ordering or a menu connected to your stock, DEV3 can build that for you.
Frequently asked questions
How is this different from the QR menu maker?
The QR Menu Maker produces a digital menu that guests open on their phone from a link or QR code. This tool designs the printed menu itself: A4, A5, tri-fold or table tent pages as a print-ready PDF. Many restaurants use both, a printed card on the table and a QR code for the full list.
Is my menu uploaded anywhere?
No. The menu, logo and settings stay in your browser and the PDF is created on your device. Clearing your browser data removes the draft, so use Export JSON to keep a copy and Import JSON to continue later.
Why does my currency show as a code such as INR?
PDF files use standard fonts that cover Latin letters, the euro and the pound, but not symbols such as the rupee. For those currencies the three-letter code is printed instead, for example INR 250. You can also choose to show plain numbers with no currency at all.
Can I print it at a print shop?
Yes. The PDF has real vector text and standard fonts at true page size. Print at 100 percent or actual size, never fit to page. The page colour fills the whole sheet, so ask for a small bleed if your printer trims by hand, or choose a white page colour for office printing.
How do the tri-fold and table tent layouts work?
The tri-fold uses A4 landscape divided into three 99 mm panels, with the menu flowing from the first panel to the last. The table tent also uses A4 landscape: the second half is printed upside down, so after folding along the centre both faces read the right way up. Tent menus are short, so the tool tells you if items do not fit.
Are non-Latin menus supported?
Not in the PDF. The standard PDF fonts cover Latin text, so other scripts print as question marks, and the tool warns you when that happens. For menus in other scripts, export the preview from your browser or ask a designer to work from your JSON.
