How to use the startup pitch deck template (html)
Present from the browser, share as a link or a PDF
A pitch deck should be clear, quick to edit and easy to share. This template gives you twelve slides that follow the standard investor story: problem, solution, product, market, business model, traction, go-to-market, competition, team, roadmap and the ask. Everything is plain HTML, so you can edit it in any text editor and host it anywhere.
Edit in the right order
- Story first. Replace the sample company "Fernwell" and write one sentence per slide before touching design. One idea per slide.
- Numbers. Update the stats on the problem slide, the market circles, the traction chart and the allocation bars. Use real, sourced figures and show how you calculated the market.
- Team. Replace the avatar tiles with headshots and keep each bio to one line of relevant experience.
- Ask. State the amount, what it buys and the milestones it reaches.
- Colours. Edit the variables at the top of assets/style.css to match your brand.
Presenting
Open index.html, press F for fullscreen and use the arrow keys or a clicker. Press O to see all slides in a grid and jump to any one. Each slide has its own address (index.html#7) so you can link to it in an email. On touch screens swipe left or right.
Exporting a PDF
Press P. In the print dialog choose Save as PDF, set Margins to None and tick Background graphics. The print styles lay out each slide on its own landscape 1280 by 720 page, so the PDF looks like the screen. Send the PDF to investors who prefer attachments.
Tips for a better deck
Keep to twelve slides or fewer, big type and little text. Put your best traction number on slide two if it is strong. Test the PDF on a phone before sending. When the deck is final, host the folder privately and share a link with an access note rather than attaching a large file.
Accessibility, motion and licence
The template uses semantic landmarks, a skip link, visible focus styles and readable contrast. Motion is limited to gentle fade-ins and hover states, and it switches off for visitors whose device asks for reduced motion. There is no 3D, no WebGL and nothing to load from a CDN. Everything is free for personal and commercial use, and the brand names, people and prices are fictional, so replace them before launch. The README in the zip lists every file and the first edits to make.
Frequently asked questions
How do I export it to PDF?
Press P, or use the browser print dialog, choose Save as PDF, set margins to None and enable background graphics. Each slide prints on its own landscape page.
What are the keyboard shortcuts?
Arrow keys, Space, Enter and PageUp/PageDown move between slides, Home and End jump to the ends, O toggles the overview grid, F toggles fullscreen and P prints.
How do I change the charts?
The charts are inline SVG in the slide markup. Edit the numbers and adjust the bar heights or circle sizes directly. The README explains the bar maths.
Can I add or remove slides?
Yes. Each slide is a section with the class slide. Duplicate or delete sections and update the footers if you show slide numbers.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes. Slides sit on a fixed 1280 by 720 canvas that scales to any screen, and you can swipe. Landscape is best on small screens.
