How to use the coming soon, maintenance and 404 page pack

Eight holding pages for the moments in between

Every site needs pages for the moments when it is not quite ready, is being fixed or cannot find what a visitor asked for. This pack gives you eight, in distinct styles, so you can pick the one that fits your brand and delete the rest.

What is inside

  • Coming soon 1: a bold gradient with a live countdown and a signup form.
  • Coming soon 2: minimal and typographic, for brands that prefer restraint.
  • Coming soon 3: a split screen with a build-progress ring and checklist.
  • Maintenance 1: a friendly illustration with a plain message and a "check again" button.
  • Maintenance 2: a status-page style card with a progress bar and per-service status.
  • 404 page 1: a big outlined number with site search.
  • 404 page 2: a terminal window with helpful links, for technical audiences.
  • 404 page 3: an illustrated map with quick links, for a warmer tone.

Edit in the right order

  1. Open the chooser (index.html), click a variant and decide which you will keep.
  2. Replace "Nimbus Labs" and the sample copy. Say what you are building, when, and what visitors get for signing up.
  3. Set the countdown date and connect the email form.
  4. Change colours in the block for your chosen variant in assets/style.css.
  5. Delete the variants you do not need.

Using them correctly

For coming soon pages, keep them light and add a noindex tag only if you do not want the page found. For maintenance, return a 503 status and a Retry-After header so search engines do not treat the outage as permanent. For 404 pages, return a real 404 status, link to your most useful pages and keep the layout simple so the page loads even when other things are broken.

Going further

Each page is self-contained, light and accessible. If you want a full waitlist with referral rewards or a status page backed by live monitoring, DEV3 can build one around these designs.

Accessibility, motion and licence

The template uses semantic landmarks, a skip link, visible focus styles and readable contrast. Motion is limited to gentle fade-ins and hover states, and it switches off for visitors whose device asks for reduced motion. There is no 3D, no WebGL and nothing to load from a CDN. Everything is free for personal and commercial use, and the brand names, people and prices are fictional, so replace them before launch. The README in the zip lists every file and the first edits to make.

Frequently asked questions

How do I use a page as my 404?

Copy the file to your server as 404.html (or the name your host expects) and set it as the not-found page. On Netlify and Cloudflare Pages a 404.html in the root is picked up automatically. Update the links so they point at your real pages.

What should a maintenance page return?

Serve it with HTTP status 503 and a Retry-After header so search engines understand the outage is temporary and do not drop your pages.

How do I collect emails on the coming soon pages?

The form uses a mailto action by default. Replace the action with your Mailchimp, ConvertKit or Formspree endpoint and remove the method and enctype attributes.

How do I change the launch date?

Edit the data-date attribute on the countdown element in coming-soon-1.html, for example 2027-01-15T09:00:00.

Do the pages share styles?

Yes, they share one stylesheet but each variant is a separate, clearly labelled block, so you can delete unused variants without breaking the rest.
