How to use the social media image resizer

One image, every platform

Each network wants its own sizes: a square post, a vertical story, a wide cover, a tall pin. Redoing the same artwork twelve times is slow. This tool takes a single image and produces them all in one go.

Steps

  1. Drop in your image. A large, high quality original gives the best results, especially for tall formats.
  2. Choose the sizes you need by ticking boxes, or use Select all for a platform. Click a size name to preview it.
  3. Pick Fill or Fit. With Fill, use the focus sliders to decide which part of the picture stays when the edges are cut. With Fit, the full image is kept and the gaps are filled with a blurred version of your photo or a colour you pick.
  4. Check the safe zone. The dim area is where apps place buttons, captions or your profile picture. Move important content into the clear rectangle.
  5. Download a single size, or a zip containing every ticked size with clear file names.

Size notes

  • Instagram feed posts work at 1080 pixels wide. Portrait 4:5 takes up the most screen space.
  • Stories, Reels, TikTok and Shorts use 1080 x 1920 and need generous margins at the top and bottom.
  • YouTube channel banners are huge at 2560 x 1440, but only the central 1546 x 423 area is visible on every device.
  • X and LinkedIn banners are very wide and are partly hidden by the profile photo.
  • Link previews on Facebook and LinkedIn use about 1.91:1, around 1200 x 630.

Making the best of it

  • Design the master image bigger than any target and with room around the subject.
  • Do not put important text near the edges of tall formats.
  • Use JPG for photos and PNG for graphics with sharp text.
  • Save a copy of the original before you start. Cropping cannot be undone in the downloaded files.

Frequently asked questions

What is a safe zone?

Platforms cover parts of your image with buttons, captions and profile photos. The safe zone is the area that stays clear on every device, so keep faces, text and logos inside the dashed rectangle.

Should I choose fill or fit?

Fill covers the whole canvas and crops the edges, which looks best for photos. Fit keeps the entire image and fills the gaps with a blurred copy or a colour, which is better for logos, charts and screenshots you cannot crop.

How current are the sizes?

They follow the sizes platforms publish and recommend now. Platforms change them occasionally, and the exact safe areas for overlays are approximate, so check the platform help page for anything critical.

Why are some profile photos shown round?

Most networks display avatars in a circle. The preview masks the picture so you can see what will show, but the downloaded file stays square, as the platforms require.

Is my image uploaded?

No. All resizing happens in your browser and the files are packaged there too.
