How to use the mini kanban and to-do board

A task board that lives in your browser

This is a deliberately small Kanban board for personal projects, study plans, small teams working from one screen, or a quick week plan. Open the page, start adding cards, and everything is saved automatically on your device.

Getting started

  1. Name the board and rename the columns. The defaults are To do, Doing and Done, but you can build any flow, such as Backlog, Writing, Review and Published.
  2. Add cards with the field at the bottom of each column. Press Enter to add several quickly.
  3. Move cards. Drag a card to another column, or drop it between two cards to set its position. On a phone, tap a card and use the arrows.
  4. Open a card to add notes and a due date, rename it or delete it. Tick the box beside a card to mark it done.

Working the Kanban way

  • Limit work in progress. If Doing holds more than three or four cards, finish something before starting another.
  • Write cards as outcomes. Send invoice to client is clearer than Invoices.
  • Keep columns few. More columns do not mean more progress.
  • Review weekly. Move finished cards out, rewrite vague ones and set due dates only where a date really matters.

Back up and share

Because nothing is stored online, use Export JSON to create a backup file. Import it into this page on any device to continue, or send it to a colleague so they can open the same board. Importing replaces the current board, so export first if you want to keep it.

When you need more

A browser board is perfect for one person. When a team needs shared boards, assignments, notifications and reports, a project workspace is the better fit, and DEV3 can set one up or build it around your process.

Frequently asked questions

Where is my board stored?

Only in your browser, on your device. Nothing is sent to a server, so there is no account. Clearing your browser data removes it, which is why there is a JSON export.

How do I move my board to another device?

Choose Export JSON, move the file to the other device and choose Import JSON there. Import replaces the board on that device with the file contents.

Can I drag cards on a phone?

Drag and drop works best with a mouse or trackpad. On touch screens, open a card and use its left and right arrows to move it between columns.

What are the limits?

Up to 12 columns and 500 cards per board, each card title up to 200 characters. These keep the board fast and the export file small.

Can I keep several boards?

The page holds one board at a time. Export a file for each project and import the one you want to work on.

Is there a keyboard way to use it?

Yes. Every control is a standard button or field, so Tab and Enter work. Use the arrows inside a card to change its column without dragging.
