Projection with a constant return. Real returns vary and are not guaranteed. SIP instalments are assumed at the start of each month.

How to use the compound interest and sip calculator

See the power of compounding

Small, regular investments grow faster than most people expect because the returns earn returns. This calculator shows exactly how, year by year.

Choose a plan type

  • SIP is a fixed amount invested every month.
  • Step-up SIP raises that amount by a percentage each year.
  • Lump sum is a single investment that compounds on its own.
  • Lump + SIP combines a starting amount with monthly additions.

Enter your assumptions

  1. Set the amount, the expected annual return and the number of years.
  2. For a lump sum, choose how often interest compounds.
  3. For a step-up SIP, enter the yearly increase.
  4. Add an inflation rate to see the final value in today's money.

Read the output

The summary shows total invested, returns earned and the final value. The line chart compares your invested money with the growing balance, and the bar chart splits each year into what you put in and what it earned. The table lists every year and downloads as a CSV for a spreadsheet.

Insights worth noticing

  • Time matters more than the amount. Starting five years earlier often beats a larger instalment later.
  • A step-up of even 5 to 10 percent a year can nearly double the final corpus on a 20-year plan.
  • A higher assumed return changes results a lot. Be conservative when you plan.
  • The gap between the final value and the inflation-adjusted value is the cost of waiting.

Results are projections at a constant rate and do not account for fees, taxes or market swings. They are not investment advice.

Frequently asked questions

How is the SIP value calculated?

Each month the instalment is added at the start of the month and the balance then earns one month of growth. The monthly rate is derived from your annual return so twelve months compound to the stated yearly figure.

What is a step-up SIP?

A step-up SIP raises your monthly instalment by a fixed percentage each year, for example 10 percent, so your investing grows with your income. It builds a much larger corpus than a flat SIP over long periods.

Does the compounding frequency matter?

A little. More frequent compounding gives slightly more interest at the same nominal rate. The lump sum mode lets you choose yearly, quarterly, monthly or daily compounding.

What does the today's money figure mean?

It divides the final value by inflation over the period, to show what the future amount would buy in today's prices. Change the inflation input to match your market.

Are the results guaranteed?

No. Market-linked investments move up and down. The tool shows a smooth projection at a constant return so you can compare plans, not a promise.
