How to use the email newsletter templates
Why tables and inline styles
Email clients are not browsers. Outlook for Windows uses a word processor to render HTML, and Gmail removes parts of your CSS. The most reliable approach is still nested tables with inline styles, which is what these three templates use. They look old-fashioned under the hood but render consistently.
Choose a template
- Product update for announcing features with a bold hero and a numbered list.
- Promo and sale for offers, with a large discount message and a product row.
- Weekly digest for editorial newsletters with a lead story and reading list.
Customise step by step
- Open the file in a code editor and edit text in place.
- Change colours by finding and replacing hex values, for example the brand colour.
- Replace each image placeholder with an img tag using an absolute https address, fixed width and height, alt text and display block.
- Update every link, and make sure the call to action points to a page that matches the email.
- Edit the hidden preheader line: it appears as preview text beside your subject in the inbox, so write it deliberately.
- Fill in the footer with your company name, postal address and your provider unsubscribe tag.
Test before you send
Send a test to Gmail, Outlook and a phone. Check the layout with images blocked and in dark mode, and confirm every link. Keep the HTML under about 100 KB so Gmail does not clip it, and keep the subject line under about 50 characters.
Sending
Paste the HTML into your email provider custom code editor or use it with your own sending system. Respect consent: only email people who agreed, and honour unsubscribes immediately. For automated campaigns, segments and tracking, a platform such as DEV3 GrowthPilot can handle the sending side.
Frequently asked questions
Will these render in Outlook?
They use the techniques Outlook needs: nested tables, inline styles, a ghost table for the 600 px width, padded-link buttons and no external CSS. Always send a test to your own Outlook and Gmail accounts before a campaign.
How do I add images?
Replace the grey blocks with img tags that use absolute https URLs, explicit width and height attributes and alt text. Host the images on your server or your email service, never on your computer.
How do I add an unsubscribe link?
Most email services provide a merge tag for it. Replace the placeholder link in the footer with your provider tag, and include your postal address, which many countries require.
Why are the preview images just coloured blocks?
Email images need your own hosted URLs, so the pack uses colour blocks that clearly mark where each image goes and works with images turned off.
