How to use the floor plan sketcher
Plan a room before you move anything
A floor plan sketch answers questions that are expensive to answer with a tape measure and a sofa: will the bed fit with the wardrobe door open, how big is the living room really, and does the dining table leave room to walk. This sketcher lets you draw rooms to scale, drop in furniture and read off the numbers, all in your browser.
Drawing the plan
- Start from the sample. The first view is a small apartment so you can see how things fit together. Use Reset to sample at any time, or New blank plan to start empty.
- Draw rooms. Choose Rectangle room and drag, or Polygon room and click the corners. Walls snap to a ten centimetre grid and to the corners of existing rooms, so shared walls line up. Live labels show every wall length and the room area while you draw.
- Add doors and windows. Pick the tool and click a wall. Drag the opening along the wall, set its width, flip the door hinge or turn a door into a window.
- Furnish. Click an item in the furniture library, then drag it into place. Use the round handle to rotate, the square handle to resize, or type exact sizes in the side panel.
- Edit freely. Select a room to move it, drag its corner handles, rename it or change its colour. Delete removes the selection, and undo and redo cover every change.
Reading the numbers
The side panel lists every room with its area and shows the total. Switch between metres and feet and inches without redrawing, because the plan is stored in centimetres underneath.
Tips for useful plans
- Draw the outer walls first, then divide the space into rooms.
- Leave about 90 cm for walkways and 60 cm in front of wardrobes and cabinets.
- Place doors before furniture, since a door swing needs clear floor.
- Export JSON before a big change so you can compare layouts.
Saving and sharing
Export a PNG to send to a contractor or family member, or a PDF to print. The JSON file holds the whole plan and can be imported later. Plans stay in your browser, so back them up if they matter.
For a tool built around your own workflow, such as a configurator or a space planner for customers, DEV3 designs and builds custom web applications.
Frequently asked questions
Is the plan to scale?
Yes. Everything is stored in centimetres and drawn on a grid, so wall lengths, areas and furniture sizes are consistent. It is a planning sketch, not a survey, so measure the real room before you buy anything.
Where is my plan stored?
Only in your browser on this device. Nothing is uploaded. Use Export JSON to keep a backup or move the plan to another device, and Import JSON to open it.
How do I draw a room that is not a rectangle?
Choose Polygon room and click each corner. Click the first corner again, press Enter or double-click to close the shape. Corners snap to the grid and line up with the corners of other rooms.
Can I switch between metres and feet?
Yes. The unit switch changes every label and field between metres with square metres, and feet and inches with square feet. In size fields you can type values such as 3.2, 320 cm or 10'6".
How do I place a door or window?
Choose Door or Window and click a wall. Then drag it along the wall, change its width in the side panel, or flip the hinge side of a door.
How do I save or print the result?
Export PNG for an image, PDF for a printable page with the plan name and total area, or JSON for an editable file.
