How to use the schema markup (json-ld) generator
Describe your page to search engines
Structured data labels the facts on a page so search engines do not have to guess. Pick the type that matches the page, fill in the form and copy a ready-to-paste JSON-LD block.
Which type for which page?
- Organization: your homepage or about page. Add a logo and links to your social profiles.
- Local business: a page for a shop, restaurant or office with an address. Opening hours use the short format
Mo-Fr 09:00-18:00, one range per line. - Product: a product page with a price, currency and availability. Add ratings only if real reviews are shown on that page.
- FAQ: a page with visible questions and answers.
- Article: a blog post or news story with a headline, image, author and ISO dates such as
2026-11-06. - Breadcrumb: the trail from the homepage to the current page. Every level except the last needs a URL.
Read the validation preview
The preview lists each property with a status. A red cross means a required property is missing or malformed, an amber triangle is a recommended property worth adding, and a green tick is fine. The summary line counts errors and warnings so you know when it is ready.
Add it to your site
- Copy the snippet.
- Paste it into the page template, or into your CMS's custom code field for that page.
- Publish, then test the live URL with Google's Rich Results Test.
- Watch the Enhancements reports in Search Console for errors after a few days.
Rules that save you trouble
Only mark up what users can see on the page. Keep prices and hours in sync with the visible text. Use absolute URLs. Do not mark up reviews you wrote yourself. If you generate pages from a database, build the JSON-LD from the same data so it never drifts.
Frequently asked questions
What is JSON-LD and why use it?
JSON-LD is a block of structured data, written in the schema.org vocabulary, that tells search engines exactly what a page is about: a product with a price, a business with opening hours, an article with an author. It can make you eligible for rich results.
Where do I paste the snippet?
Inside a script tag of type application/ld+json, in the head or body of the page it describes. The generator wraps the JSON for you. Put one block per page, or several blocks if the page has several entities.
Will this guarantee rich results?
No. Valid markup makes a page eligible, but search engines decide what to show. The content must be visible on the page and match the markup.
Does this validator replace Google's Rich Results Test?
No. It checks required and recommended properties and common format mistakes while you type. Always test the live page with Google's Rich Results Test and the Schema Markup Validator before relying on it.
Is FAQ markup still worth adding?
Google now shows FAQ rich results only for a small set of authoritative sites, but the markup is harmless, other engines and assistants can read it, and the questions are still good page content.
