Mollycot is a pet care platform that you host yourself, built by DEV3 Technologies on Laravel 12 and Filament 4, with two Flutter apps: one for pet owners and one for carers. Owners add their pets and vaccine records, search carers and book boarding, house sitting, drop-in visits, walks or daycare. Each carer's home has a real capacity counted per night in size units, so a night shows as full before anyone is turned away. During care the carer logs doses and meals and sends photo report cards. The demo business is a fictional canal town, Lindehaven, priced in euros with 21% VAT included.

No live demo: 112 grouped screenshots and a desktop video tour show the marketing site (flat, code-drawn illustrations and no photographs), the public carer pages, the owner account, the admin panel and both apps. Install it with the demo data to try every role on your own server.

Owners

  • A public site with a search card (service, dates, pet), carer search with filters, carer profiles with services, prices, cancellation policy and reviews, a booking wizard with a range calendar of per-night availability, prepaid walk packs, safety and areas pages, and an account area with pets, vaccine uploads, bookings, report cards, walk traces, payment requests and a wallet.
  • An owner app with a stack of pet cards (today's report, doses and the next event), a pet form, health records with a verification state and an expiry bar, medicine plans, carer search by dates, home profiles and meet-and-greet requests.
  • A range calendar that refuses a stay across full nights, a quote split into parts (holiday nights, long-stay discount, second pet, fee and VAT), a vet spending limit, payment with a hold countdown and a wait for the carer's answer with a refund promise.
  • Today in care (nights strip, doses, meals), report cards with photos, a live walk on a map or a plain "No trace recorded", six-digit handover codes, confirm and rate, cancel previews with the exact fee, early pick-up, payment requests, walk packs with schedules and a wallet.

Carers

  • A carer app whose home is the Night Board: a week of nights as columns of unit pips, with requests shown as ghost pips and an answer ring counting down the deadline.
  • Meet-and-greets, a handover code pad that counts wrong tries, a Today checklist with an away-minutes meter and overdue-dose prompts, offline dose ticks that wait to send, report cards with up to six photos, walks with a live trace, incidents with a vet bill and a receipt photo, and block-a-night.
  • Services and rates, working hours and time off, documents with review state, earnings by week with the booking split, pending and available balance, cash-out, strikes and reviews.

Admin panel

  • A dashboard with pets in care tonight, walks now, occupancy, doses overdue, pending requests and open incidents, and a flat Live park map of boarded pets and running walks, refreshed every 15 seconds.
  • Bookings by status with CSV export, booking detail (timeline, nights grid, pets, doses, meals, report cards and bill split), a night capacity grid, carer applications, home checks, a vaccine queue with image preview and Verify and Reject, expiring records, incidents, missed doses, rehoming and the care fund.
  • Payment requests, pending refunds, meet-and-greets, walk packs and reports (nights sold, occupancy by district, take rate, acceptance, dose compliance and repeat rate).

Capacity, health and money

  • Nights are counted per carer in size units (small 1, medium 2, large 3 by default). Cats and dogs are kept apart unless the carer allows mixing, and a house sit reserves its nights exclusively.
  • Vaccines must be valid through the last night, a first stay needs a meet-and-greet, and a missed dose raises a single alert to the owner.
  • A request is paid in full when it is sent and refunded if the carer declines or does not answer in time. Late pick-up fees and vet bills are sent as payment requests that the owner pays; an unpaid request blocks new bookings.
  • Every deadline is enforced when a record is read, so nothing waits for the scheduler. Card refunds are written in the same transaction as the money, sent after commit and retried. A reconciliation command (mollycot:check) checks escrow, night units and every wallet.

What is included

  • The Laravel application with Composer packages and compiled assets inside (no Node.js or Composer on the server), both Flutter projects in apps/, the shared DEV3 Flutter package, a web installer and an HTML buyer guide.
  • Demo data for the fictional canal town: 40 carers, 160 owners, about 330 bookings, 127 visits and 7 walk packs.

Good to know

  • The demo data is small. It covers every booking status, cancellation policy, no-show, decline, expiry, missed visit, incident, walk pack and pending vaccine, but it is smaller than the history DEV3 first planned. It is not a large load-test data set, and it takes about 80 seconds to seed on MySQL.
  • Payments and push are simulated by default. The simulated gateway works out of the box, so booking and paying need no keys. Stripe, Razorpay and PayPal drivers are included but were not run against real accounts. Real push and the optional realtime server were not exercised.
  • Mollycot never charges a saved card. Extra costs such as a late pick-up or a vet bill are payment requests that the owner pays.
  • Stripe refunds have no idempotency key yet. A gateway timeout after Stripe accepted a refund can be retried, so retries need buyer review before you go live with real card payments.
  • The apps were not tested on physical devices. They build as debug Android packages and run on the iOS simulator. Each app was also run once against a live server through test files.
  • Walk traces record only while the app is open. There is no background tracking, and a walk with GPS off shows "No trace recorded".
  • Some things live in the apps, not on the web. Meet-and-greets are scheduled in the carer app, and weekly walk schedules and booking a single walk from a pack are in the apps. The apps pick images only, so vaccine PDFs are uploaded on the web. Reports are photos and text, with no video, and handover uses a six-digit code, not a signature.
  • Updates refresh within about 15 seconds. The apps poll; there is no push-driven live view.
  • A few admin rough edges. The walks-running view is a table, not a map. Suspending a carer does not cancel existing bookings, and review moderation blanks the text but keeps the stars.
  • Use MySQL or MariaDB on a live site. The Pest tests run on SQLite, where row locks do nothing; the concurrency checks that prove the locking run on MySQL 8.
  • Name: Mollycot is a working name checked by a web search only, not a trademark clearance. Check it before you launch under it.
  • No hosted demo. Every owner, carer and pet in the screenshots is fictional. Install it with the demo data to try every role on your own server.

Quality checks

Mollycot 1.0.0 passed the seven release gates of the DEV3 Laravel suite on the final code: static analysis (Larastan level 6, 0 errors), 220 Pest tests with 2,803 assertions, a front-end size budget (19.2 KB of JavaScript and CSS gzipped), migrations and seeding on MySQL 8 and SQLite, a headless-browser pass over 193 pages with parallel-request race checks on MySQL followed by the reconciliation command, an installer test from the zip, and a secret scan. The owner app passed analysis and 355 tests, and the carer app 113 tests, with debug Android and iOS simulator builds. A review of the money and locking code found 15 issues, all fixed with tests, and the live-server runs found and fixed two real app bugs. Lighthouse scores were not measured on the final code.

How it's built

Architecture, stack, key decisions and the quality gates DEV3 Mollycot passed before release.

The engineering behind Mollycot: capacity counted per carer per night, vaccine and meet-and-greet gates, doses with a grace period, a fixed lock order and card refunds written with the money and retried after commit.

The problem it solves

A pet carer's home is a small, shared space. Whether a stay fits depends on every night between check-in and check-out, on the size and species of the other guests and on vaccines that may expire mid-stay. Owners pay before the carer has answered, carers drop out, doses are ticked on phones with no signal, and a refund must neither be lost nor sent twice.

Architecture and approach

Mollycot is a Laravel 12 application with a Filament 4 admin at /admin, a public website with an owner account and a REST API used by two Flutter apps.

Capacity per night

Each carer's home has units per night. A pet takes one, two or three units by size, species rules keep cats and dogs apart, and a booking reserves its nights under a row lock. Pure classes for night maths, bills, cancellation and doses are tested against vectors produced by an independent Python implementation, and the apps run Dart ports against the same vectors.

Gates

A booking checks that vaccines are valid through the last night and that a first stay has a passed meet-and-greet, and the quote says which gate failed.

One lock order

Every path locks in the same order through one entry point: booking, pack, carer, carer nights, calendar cells, promo, dose tasks, pending refund, then wallets. Deadlines are enforced when a record is read, and expiry is committed before the requested action runs, so a refused action cannot roll back an expiry that was already announced.

Refunds and pay on request

The owner pays when the request is sent and is refunded if the carer declines or does not answer. Refunds are rows written in the money transaction, sent after commit and retried by the scheduler, then credited to the wallet. A reconciliation command checks escrow, night units and every wallet.

Apps

The owner and carer apps share one API contract with the server, queue doses and photos without signal and start in a demo mode that needs no server.

Quality gates and results

Mollycot 1.0.0 passed the seven release gates on the final code: 220 Pest tests with 2,803 assertions, 193 pages in a headless browser with race checks on MySQL followed by the reconciliation command, the installer test from the zip and a clean secret scan. The owner and carer apps pass analysis and 355 and 113 tests.

Limits are listed on the item page: the demo data is small, payments and push are simulated by default, Stripe refunds have no idempotency key yet and walk traces record only while the app is open.

Pet care booking software: 7 things to check before you pick one

Pet care booking software: 7 things to check before you pick one: DEV3 Mollycot

A pet stay is a capacity problem with health rules attached. Here are seven things to check before you pick software, with DEV3 Mollycot as the worked example.

Mollycot home: the search card and a felt-style cat and dog illustration

1. Does it count capacity per night?

A home that is full on Friday must not take a Friday booking. Mollycot counts size units per carer per night.

The night capacity grid in the admin panel

2. Can an owner see room before asking?

Look for a calendar that shows each night's free units and refuses a stay across full nights.

The booking wizard with its range calendar

3. Are vaccines checked?

Check that records must be valid through the last night and that staff can verify a certificate.

4. What happens when a carer declines?

Look for refund on decline or timeout, and for extra costs sent as requests rather than charged to a saved card.

5. How are doses and report cards handled?

A carer should be able to tick a dose without signal and send photos to the owner.

6. Who pays for the unexpected?

Incidents, vet bills with an owner-set limit and a fund that pays carers first and is repaid.

A booking with doses and the bill split

7. What is not finished?

Ask for the limits in writing. For Mollycot: payments and push are simulated by default, Stripe refunds have no idempotency key yet, walk traces record only while the app is open, and the demo data is small.
